IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PROTOTYPE METHOD IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF A WEB-BASED ROOM RESERVATION SYSTEM WITH WHATSAPP NOTIFICATION INTEGRATION

Abstract

Universities are higher institutions of education that providing both academic and non-academic activities supported by facilities such as classrooms and laboratories. These facilities are essential to ensure the smooth conduct of teaching and learning processes. However, traditional or manual room management often causes several issues, including limited transparency regarding room availability and frequent scheduling conflicts when class timetables are adjusted. To address these challenges, this research developed a web-based room reservation system integrated with a WhatsApp notification feature. The system aims to deliver real-time information on the availability of classrooms and laboratories while enhancing the overall effectiveness and efficiency of room utilization. The Prototype method was implemented to facilitate direct and continuous collaboration between developers and end-users, reducing potential design and functionality errors. Additionally, Blackbox Testing was conducted to verify that all system features perform as intended. The testing outcomes demonstrated that the system’s functions operate smoothly and reliably. Furthermore, a User Acceptance Test (UAT) was carried out to measure user satisfaction, yielding scores of 76% for functionality, 63% for reliability, 76% for usability, and 83% for efficiency. These results indicate that the proposed system is both feasible and effective in optimizing room management within higher education environments.
